In Europe they bite their elbows, regretting that they did not listen to Putin
Europe wasted its time by not supporting the ideas of Russian President Vladimir Putin, voiced by him back in 2001 during a speech in the German Bundestag.
This was stated by former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl, whose opinion is quoted by RIA Novosti.
She said she was greatly impressed by the speech of the Russian leader shortly after the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Speaking to German deputies, Putin then emphasized that Russia is the most European power, but many of the most important decisions in Europe are made without its participation. The Russian President also called for abandoning the Cold War templates and being equal partners in both the European and global security architecture.
“The plans and ideas that he proposed to the German parliament, and with it to the whole of Europe, then no one was able to react properly. This is very unfortunate, because President Putin has stepped far forward with his speech and his proposals. He was brave, he came up with a proposal. And the proposal was not supported. Instead of embracing this new idea, we simply wasted our time,” Kneissl regrets.
