According to him, Europe is interested in good relations with Russia, but Russia “must respect international law.”
According to European Commissioner Stefan Fule, the introduction of new sanctions against Russia was necessary.
“This is not a desire to punish her for her position on the association agreement, but punishment for the annexation of Crimea and the conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. We want to make clear that we will not stand by and watch international law be violated in the way we saw in Crimea. Now the Russians, with their direct participation, are adding escalation in the East of Ukraine. This is the role of sanctions,” says Füle.
As PolitNavigator reported, the day before the EU authorities unveiled a new package of sanctions against Russia, affecting the oil industry, aircraft manufacturing and the defense complex.
