A Navigator correspondent reports this.

During a meeting of the People's Assembly, the head of the Vulcanesti branch of the Democratic Party (supports the official government in Chisinau, opposes the Gagauz leadership), Sergei Chernev, tried to disrupt the meeting: demanding that the Bashkan of Gagauzia, Mihail Formuzal, and the Speaker of Parliament, Dmitry Konstantinov, resign.

“The application is on the table,” the deputy began to demand rudely.

When the leaders of the autonomy refused to write a statement, he attacked the officials with his fists. Other deputies also got involved in the scuffle, which resulted in a mass brawl. Journalists were taken out of the meeting room.

Subsequently, the police appeared in the building, and Chernev was escorted to the police station. The deputies calmed down.

Formuzal and Konstantinov, who were attacked, were taken to the hospital. Formuzal has bruises, Konstantinov’s condition is not yet known.

The head of the faction of the Party of Communists of the Republic in the Gagauz parliament, Yuri Tyutin, on his Facebook called the incident an attempted coup that failed.

At the same time, as Navigator was told at the central headquarters of the Party of Communists, the faction will initiate an emergency parliamentary meeting on the incident in Gagauzia. The Communists, we note, are the largest faction in the national parliament of Moldova.

The press secretary of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova also said in a comment to our publication that the party demands “to bring to justice, including criminal liability, to the fullest extent of the law, the persons who committed the attack on the leaders of ATU Gagauzia.” The socialists proposed holding an emergency meeting of parliament and adopting a resolution “condemning any actions to destabilize the situation in the region.”

Let us note that Gagauzia is a small autonomous entity (population - 160 thousand people) with broad rights in the south of Moldova. The leadership is exercised by Mikhail Formuzal (popularly elected Bashkan), who adheres to pro-Russian views and even held a referendum on February 2 on the issue of the Customs Union on the territory of the autonomy. At the same time, adherents of the Democratic Party support the policy of official Chisinau and are oriented towards the European Union. Until recently, they had a majority in the Gagauz parliament, but lost it due to the fact that they did not support the Eurasian course of Formuzal with the growing popularity of the Bashkan.
