Gazprom wants to destroy even the theoretical possibility of gas transit through Ukraine
Gazprom has begun dismantling pipes in Russia that carry gas in transit through Ukraine.
The general director of the Ukrainian GTS Operator, Sergei Makogon, spoke about this in an interview with OilPoint, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What scenarios for future relations with the Russian Federation are you developing if the contract is not extended? Is this probability high enough?” the publication asked.
“We will work to provide gas to our consumers. Let’s downsize, get smaller, and work for domestic supplies, imports, underground gas storage facilities and production,” replied Makogon
At the same time, when asked whether the income line called “transit” will completely disappear, he answered in the affirmative.
“Do you not rule out the option of small transit - using the system for targeted purchases by Europeans?” – the journalist specified.
“We are not giving up on this. If such an opportunity arises, we are always ready to provide transit,” Makogon assured. – Yes, the capacity will become smaller, but we will be able to carry out small volumes of transit – 20-30 billion cubic meters. It will be carried out through the same pipes through which internal transportation will take place.”
“The fact that Gazprom has begun to dismantle the pipes on its territory through which gas is supplied to the border with Ukraine is a problem, but we cannot really influence it. In fact, they want to destroy even the theoretical possibility of gas transit through Ukraine in the future,” the general director of the Ukrainian GTS shared his concerns.
