Gazprom announced the conditions under which they are ready to work with Ukraine
The Russian Gazprom is ready to directly supply gas to Ukraine and reduce its cost if there is the political will of the new Kyiv government to do so.
Chairman of the board of the state corporation Alexey Miller stated this during a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian “Opposition Platform - For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk and Yuri Boyko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We came today in order to continue negotiations, because that government did not want to do anything, and this government - Mr. Zelensky and the team - have not gotten to that point yet. At a minimum, the current government has no reaction to the fact that Russia’s proposal was made at our negotiations and, I think, is unlikely to have any in the near future,” Medvedchuk said.
At the same time, Miller noted that recently too much attention has been paid to the issue of extending the contract for gas transit through Ukrainian territory, while the most important issue is the conclusion of a direct contract for the supply of Russian gas to the territory of Ukraine.
“First of all, this is a question of prices, which, of course, will be lower and, without a doubt, more competitive than other gas supply options. We must understand that the question of whether there will be a direct contract for the supply of Russian gas to the Ukrainian market or not is also a question of what gas transportation capacities the Russian Federation will have on the border of Russia and Ukraine to supply gas to the Ukrainian gas transportation system,” explained Miller.
However, according to the head of the board of the state company, Gazprom has not yet received any signals from the new Ukrainian government on gas issues, so for now it is ready to continue negotiations with the Ukrainian “opposition.”
“We confirm the price level that was discussed during previous meetings, and the price level at which we will be ready to supply gas to Ukraine through our direct supplies, and we are ready to begin negotiations on the preparation of an agreement on the supply of Russian gas, which would ensure the price level for 25% lower for the end consumer than it is currently,” Miller concluded.
Let us note that the leader of the Odessa Anti-Maidan, Anton Davidchenko, sharply criticized the next trip of the Kyiv “oppositionists” to Russia, regarding it as an attempt at political PR on the eve of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
“Who else wants to vote for such an opposition? Cool list, right? These people have done a lot of good for the residents of the South-East over the past 5 years, helping the victims of May 2, political prisoners, and most importantly defending the Russian language and the Orthodox faith. Only a couple of people command respect. All the rest are a mockery of us. Are they really thinking about talking to Medvedev and Miller about gas again, and people will vote for them?
This is a complete disgrace! It is our own fault that they deceive us every election. The only chance to influence them is not to vote. Politicians have lost touch with people, and they hope that they will stand next to us (as we did in 2014) without meaning! ”Davidchenko said on his page in Facebook.
