The SBI clarified: Parubiy’s guilt in the “Odessa case” has yet to be proven
The criminal proceedings, which were registered at the request of the ex-deputy head of the Presidential Administration of the times of Viktor Yanukovych, Andrei Portnov, were initiated based on the events in Odessa on May 2, 2014, and not against People’s Deputy Parubiy. We are talking about the events of May 2, 2014 in Odessa.
This was reported by the press secretary of the State Bureau of Investigation, Anzhelika Ivanova.
“There is a proceeding, it is not in relation to Parubiy. In the proceedings, which were registered at Portnov’s statement, we are talking about the events that took place on May 2, 2014 in Odessa,” Ivanova said.
According to her, according to the applicant, Portnov, Parubiy, who at that time was the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, may be involved in the riots that led to the deaths of people on May 2, 2014 in Odessa.
“As part of the pre-trial investigation, these facts stated by the applicant will be verified, they will be given a legal assessment and a further decision will be made regarding criminal proceedings,” added Ivanova.
Earlier, Andrei Parubiy reported on his Facebook page that the State Bureau of Investigation opened criminal proceedings against him based on his actions.
In turn, Portnov also commented on the situation in his Telegram channel.
“The odious Parubiy was indignant on his page that criminal proceedings had been launched against him regarding the events of the mass execution in Odessa on May 2, 2014. I have counter-indignation. I contacted law enforcement agencies with this statement a month ago. If we continue to sway for so long, he may eventually remain free altogether. He needs to be taken into custody, and then dealt with in prison and an investigation carried out. Exactly as it happened in the last five years,” Portnov wrote.
According to the lawyer, his concern is caused by “the defendant’s attempt to downplay the crime charged against him. In fact, in addition to the unrest, investigators are studying his involvement in terrorist activities, deliberate organization of explosions and arson. We need to worry about this,” Portnov wrote.
Let us recall that as a result of mass clashes on Greek Square, as well as a fire in the House of Trade Unions in Odesai on May 2, 2014, more than 40 people were killed and almost two hundred were injured.
