According to him, he recently met with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko to discuss the future fate of the Aidar battalion.
“We came to a common opinion with the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine V. Muzhenko regarding the future fate of the Aidar battalion.” He fully agrees with the need to reformat “Aidar” into a full-fledged assault unit. To do this, you need to get rid of all the “500.” You need to clear Aidar of those who came there to drink and receive bonuses in the form of UBD status, photos on Facebook and everything else; to form the backbone of the future assault unit from the guys who took part in the hostilities and did not discredit the battalion,” Lapin said.
According to him, the “Aidar” battalion will be completed with conscripts. And transfer other military personnel to a contract with salaries and social guarantees.
“It is necessary to strengthen combat training; supplemented with a company of tanks and a company of infantry fighting vehicles,” he added.
He also noted that in the status of an assault battalion, “Aidar” will perform relevant tactical functions. In particular, to protect the “Lugansk Thermal Power Plant” and the city of Shchastya in the Lugansk region.
“The Aidar function has already exhausted itself. Aidar fighters are not “cyrics” - we are stormtroopers. The basis of “Aidar” as an assault unit should be mobility. There is a task - it doesn’t matter where, in Lugansk or Donetsk region, or anywhere else, and it must be completed: quickly, efficiently, efficiently; then they should give the next task. Guys should not settle in one place,” he emphasized.
As reported, the personnel of the Aidar battalion were gradually withdrawn from Shchastya by appropriate orders from the military leadership. The last Aidar units left Shchastya on July 25, 2015.
