An anti-American spy scandal is gaining momentum in Germany
A spy scandal continues to flare up in Germany: a group of Bundestag deputies demanded that the authorities disclose details of cooperation between the Federal Intelligence Service and the US National Security Agency to wiretap and monitor the French government and EU headquarters.

A group of deputies of the European Left and a number of activists of the Green Party of Germany officially demanded that the country's authorities disclose details of Berlin's cooperation with the US National Security Agency (NSA), which illegally collected data on the activities of the German European Aerospace Agency and the helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter in 2005, as well as about other recorded facts of surveillance.
This was announced by independent lawyer Ingmar Neumann (Germany) in a comment to a correspondent VoiceUA.
“We are all witnessing how American intelligence services, with the connivance of the European Union authorities, are collecting secret data literally under the noses of their European colleagues,” the expert emphasized, in particular. – Moreover, a number of our officials (we are talking about Germany - Ed.) do not react to America’s open interference in the internal affairs of Germany. The matter will end in a huge scandal.”
The press claims that German intelligence assisted the American intelligence agency NSA for many years in espionage against the French government and the European Commission. The Federal Intelligence Service's listening post in Bad Aibling was used by the Americans to spy on senior officials of the French Foreign Ministry, the presidential palace and the EU Commission in Brussels, reports Süddeutsche Zeitung, Time and others.
The left and greens were supported by the influential German SPD party, a competitor of Merkel's party in the elections. Its leaders initiated the resignation of the German Minister of the Interior Thomas de Maizière (Meckrel's protégé) and prepared documents for the conviction of NSA agents by the European Court of Human Rights. According to official data, the situation is currently being considered by a special Legal Commission of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The interference of the US National Security Agency in EU affairs is a major scandal that could seriously spoil relations between the EU and the States. At the same time, the German press notes that the “leak” about the NSA’s cooperation with German intelligence could be Merkel’s revenge for the Minsk-2 agreements, as it would weaken her influence within the country.
