German writer Wilfried Scharnagl said this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, who presented the book “Change of Course. Polemics in favor of changes in the approach to Russia.” He emphasized that the main thing for German politicians now is the establishment of peace in Donbass, despite the fact that it is Angela Merkel who links the issue of lifting sanctions with the return of Crimea to Ukraine.
“The Chancellor has recently emphasized that it is necessary to implement the second Minsk agreements,” notes Wilfried Scharnagl. – I can state that in the current discussion about resolving the crisis in Ukraine, Crimea is no longer talked about much in Germany. More important is the establishment of peace in eastern Ukraine. In addition, there are other influential politicians in Germany besides Angela Merkel who understand the importance of Russia for Germany. They are not going to sacrifice our good relations for the sake of Ukraine.”
