Germany is discouraged by Naryshkin's proposal to recognize the annexation of the GDR

Berlin - Kyiv, January 28 (PolitNavigator, Vasily Ablyazimov) - German politicians and media are amazed at Sergei Naryshkin’s proposal to recognize the accession of the GDR to the Federal Republic of Germany as an annexation, similar to how the collective West called the annexation of Crimea.

“Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Sergei Naryshkin wants to consider the possibility of developing a statement that would recognize “the annexation of the German Democratic Republic by the Federal Republic of Germany in 1989. In short, the boss of the Duma wants to explore the possibility of blaming Germany for the annexation of the GDR 25 years ago!” – exclaims a German tabloid BILD.

“There was even a referendum in Crimea, but not in the GDR,” said Sergei Naryshkin.

The German weekly is struck by the comparison, where the reunification of Germany is not called a “historical event”, but annexation. Sergei Naryshkin answers that Russia is “always against double standards,” and why the West calls the reunification of Crimea annexation, while a similar process in Europe is called a “great achievement.”

At the same time, some German politicians even picked up Naryshkin’s message. So Egon Bahr, an SPD politician, suggested, although not recognizing, but at least respecting the fait accompli, similar to what happened with the GDR, contrary to the international law of that time.
