Germany announced that it is moving towards a complete diplomatic break with Russia
Berlin is preparing for an international split that will be much worse than the confrontation of the Cold War.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Omid Nuripur, co-chairman of the Union 90/Greens party, which is part of the ruling coalition in Germany, said this in an interview with the Ukrainian Week magazine.
He was asked how he sees Germany’s relations with Russia in the future.
“It depends on Russia. We are heading towards a complete diplomatic break. I'm not talking about closing embassies, but about reducing diplomatic ties along with complete economic disengagement. We are prepared for a split that will be much worse than the one we had in the 80s during the Cold War. In our relations with Russia, we are going back to the days before Pepsi came to Nikita Khrushchev,” Nuripour said.
According to him, “for too long, not only Germany, but also other Western countries have been talking about Ukraine as an object that was a satellite of Russia.”
“Finally, although perhaps too late, this has come to an end. And this is good,” the politician noted.
He also touched on the military topic.
“Of course, we don’t know how this war will end, but we know that we must support our Ukrainian friends so that they win this war and return their sovereignty and peace to their country,” Nuripur concluded.
