Germany realized that the battle for Belarus could not be won against Russia
The European Union will not put undue pressure on the leadership of Belarus, where the opposition is now trying to remove current President Alexander Lukashenko from power and declare housewife Svetlana Tikhanovskaya head of state.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this on the OTR TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the West will not be able to do the same with Belarus as with Ukraine, because Russia will not allow this.
“Of course, the European Union is trying to influence the situation in Belarus, but gently. I think that the European Union will not go that far or increase its influence, pressure, up to the situation that we saw six years ago on the Maidan in Kyiv in Ukraine.
Yes, I watch the local news, listen to the local politicians - it seems to me that the following conclusions can be drawn here: Germany does not want to enter into a new geopolitical struggle with Russia, because it understands that Europe will not win it. Belarus is not Ukraine, it is a double ally - an economic and military ally of Russia. This could happen there if, like in Ukraine, a fight for this country starts, it won’t seem good to anyone,” Rahr said.
