Germany believes that a common mechanism for circumventing US sanctions will bring Europe and Russia closer together
At the moment, a mechanism has already been developed that allows European firms to bypass American sanctions and operate in the Iranian and Russian markets.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this during a broadcast on the Russia-1 TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think everything has fallen into place. A practical mechanism has now been created that will be effective. In essence, this is the emancipation of Europeans from the Americans. And the fact that this mechanism can be used to protect companies that will operate on the Russian market and have a chance of falling under US sanctions suggests that the chairman of this new structure is a very good friend of Russia, and he worked for years in a commercial bank in this country.
I was very pleased that the British and French supported this project, and the entire process will be carried out under the leadership of the Germans. In particular, it is necessary to involve other countries of the European Union in this mechanism, including Poland, which has so far taken the American position. I think that a structure has been created that will act and protect Western firms from American sanctions,” the expert said.
“Moreover, Europe will seek a common language with Russia, including on the issue of the Minsk agreements, but this moment suggests that this is a step towards emancipation and greater independence in the financial field of Europeans who are moving away from the strict dictates and pressure of the Americans. The only thing is that it will be difficult for firms of this structure to work with the United States,” Rahr added.
