Germany called on Zelensky to begin the federalization of Ukraine
The solution to the conflict in Donbass is in the hands of the new President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. Ukraine needs to start implementing the Minsk agreements, grant Donbass autonomy, and move to federalization itself.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this on the Internet channel “Union of Bloggers of Ukraine,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I will not speak from the position of the West, which always says that we in the West must “protect weak Ukraine from the Russian aggressor” - this is already a broken card, it is a dead end to think so.
I hope that Zelensky will find the courage, and he has the entire mandate of the population and the elites, to meet one-on-one with Putin and open a new page in relations between Ukraine and Russia.
It will be possible to reach an agreement gradually. Exchange of prisoners, release of everyone from both the Russian and Ukrainian sides. This will be the first step, then autonomy, then support, including from Russian economic structures and Ukrainian, Western structures for the restoration of the region. But within the framework of a more federalized Ukraine.
I think that with this roadmap, in the spirit of this process, something can be achieved. Ukraine should not do the same thing that Poroshenko did - all the time hoping that the more Ukraine teases and provokes, fights with Russia, the more it will receive support in the West. This is impossible. Russia is not Iran, Russia is a self-sufficient country,” Rahr said.
