The German government has announced tougher asylum policies. We are talking about simplifying and speeding up the deportation of persons who have been denied asylum, the German government portal Deutsche Welle (DW) reported on February 5.

After some time, this mechanism can be used in relation to citizens of Ukraine who still have temporary protection status in Germany, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for more consistent deportations of those who have not been granted asylum in Germany.

“If Germany guarantees protection to persecuted people, then those who cannot claim this protection must return to their homeland,” he said.

The Chancellor recalled that for this, countries of origin must accept their deported citizens. This debate has been going on in Germany for a long time.

“This is often a problem. And it is precisely this issue that we must now decisively address,” Scholz emphasized.

Germany wants to bring illegal immigration under control through “migration agreements” with third countries. The German Government Commissioner for Migration, Joachim Stamp, emphasizes:

“People shouldn’t have to board fragile boats on the Mediterranean or climb over barbed wire fences only to end up here in a system that doesn’t apply to them because they are not persecuted in their own country.”

So far, this does not apply to Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Germany after the start of the SVO, since they have a special “temporary protection” status, which is renewed every few months.

However, sooner or later, Ukrainians who decide to stay in Germany will be forced to apply for full refugee status - with each case considered separately, and not simply on the basis of Ukrainian citizenship. And then those who do not receive such status (for example, those who have housing outside the combat zone) will be promptly deported to Ukraine.

Как reported “PolitNavigator”, Germany has accepted more than a million refugees from Ukraine.
