“The United States is using its hegemonic position in the world to overcome the crisis. America has historically high levels of national debt and commercial debt. The old economic model of living on debt no longer works. Structural weakness results in the desire to make money by promoting their gas projects, as well as in other industries,” the expert said.
He is convinced that Brussels views American sanctions as an attempt to undermine Europe’s sovereignty in ensuring energy security; he says that Europeans no longer agree to follow Washington without any doubts, and “independent policies are in increasing demand in Europe.”
Helmeier believes that if Washington continues its policy, “the Trump administration will become increasingly isolated.”
“I proceed from the fact that the Nord Stream 2 project will be implemented. Europe’s energy security is based on gas supplies from Russia, which has always fulfilled its obligations, despite numerous crises and turns of history,” emphasized the publication’s interlocutor, who expressed doubts that the United States will be able to establish uninterrupted supplies of liquefied gas to Europe.
