The State Department is shocked by the situation in the Sea of Azov
The United States is concerned about the situation in the Sea of Azov.
Special Representative of the US State Department for Ukraine Kurt Volker told the STB TV channel about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One collision is enough, and the war will begin at sea. For example, yesterday Russian patrols provoked Ukrainian border guards,” the TV channel’s story states.
A representative of the US State Department agrees with these assessments.
“Currently the situation in the Sea of Azov is extremely threatening. Russia has greatly increased its military presence. We strongly disagree with this. At first she said that she needed a path to the annexed Crimea, we did not agree with this. Then she stated that the Sea of Azov was her territory, and we also did not agree with this. And since she patrols this area of water on ships, this increases the risk of skirmishes on the high seas. That’s why we are concerned about this behavior,” Volker said.
Let us note that, according to the agreement signed between Moscow and Kiev, the Sea of Azov is considered an internal sea of both Russia and Ukraine.
We would like to remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that, according to ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, Ukraine is unable to resolve the maritime crisis without outside help.
