The State Department no longer hides the fact that the United States is helping the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike the Donbass republics
The United States has supplied lethal weapons to Ukraine before, simply hiding this fact with crafty wording. US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker said this today in an interview with Ekho Moskvy radio.

“The Obama government helped Ukraine with defensive weapons, but at that time there was this rather artificial distinction between lethal and non-lethal weapons. For example, counter-battery radars, which help to strike back at points from which fire is heard. Such weapons are considered non-lethal. At the same time, the sniper rifles that the United States will now allow Ukraine to buy are considered lethal weapons. And in fact, this limitation is quite artificial,” Volker said.
The latest decision on arms supplies to Ukraine, he said, was simply “the lifting of restrictions from the Obama administration.”
“This decision was made by the US Presidential Administration as a whole, so everyone is behind it. And of course, I have always taken the position that any country has the right to self-defense. I wouldn't take credit for the achievement here, but I've always been convinced that it was the right idea. But the decision was made at the highest level of government,” Volker said.
