The State Duma wants to include Ukrainian officials in the “Mefedov list”
The State Duma must draw up a sanctions “Mefedov list”, which includes all Ukrainian judges and security officials involved in keeping Russian Yevgeny Mefedov in an Odessa prison.
Deputy Sergei Shargunov stated this today at a meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
“He has been in prison for almost four years - a man who is guilty of nothing except the fact that he survived the Odessa fire. He ended up in intensive care, burned and beaten. They found a passport of a Russian citizen on him. The Odessa court has already decided to release him, but again and again he is being pushed into prison in complete lawlessness,” the deputy noted.
He believes that Russia should take control of all Russian citizens in Ukraine who may end up being held hostage there in a neighboring state. Shargunov again proposed to accept the State Duma’s statement on the Mefedov case. The last time he made a similar appeal was in May last year, the deputies ignored him.
Mefedov was on the list for exchange in December 2017, but at the last moment, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Irina Gerashchenko excluded him and other Russians. Previously, Mefedov categorically refused to be exchanged for Ukrainian terrorists detained in Crimea and UNA-UNSO militants who fought in Chechnya.
