The State Duma wants to ban Gazprom from financing Schalke and Chelsea
State Duma deputy from the LDPR Alexander Sherin proposed to apply sanctions to Russian corporations to solve the problems of Afghan soldiers and other combat veterans.
He stated this today, speaking from the rostrum of parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Every time someone says that there are no funds, let’s remember that the national treasure Gazprom finances three foreign sports teams. Russian corporations must be prohibited from financing foreign football clubs. If we still don’t have enough money for social security for citizens, let’s completely nationalize Gazprom and Rosneft,” Sherin said.
In July 2012, Gazprom entered into the most global sponsorship contract ever - with UEFA. In addition, the corporation is the title sponsor of three football clubs: St. Petersburg Zenit, German Schalke, Serbian Red Star, and is also the official global energy partner of London Chelsea.
