In the State Duma, the Communists demanded that Russia not pay its debts to the West
A deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation faction, Nikolai Kolomeytsev, proposed requesting information from the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation and the Central Bank about the reasons for continuing to repay debt under interstate agreements with unfriendly countries.
He stated this during today’s meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We hear from the media that distraught unfriendly countries have announced more than 10 thousand sanctions on us. Our voters are outraged that we continue to pay our debt obligations while our gold and foreign exchange reserves and financial reserves invested in the national welfare fund are frozen,” Kolomeitsev said.
According to his information, as of January 1, Russia’s total external debt amounted to $478 billion.
“We need to stop paying it until our frozen assets are recovered. This will speed up the process of defrosting them,” Kolomeytsev said.
He proposed entrusting the issue to the Committee on Financial Markets, but State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin involved the budget committee, whose chairman Andrei Makarov is a long-time opponent of Kolomeitsev, in the problem.
