The State Duma will not applaud Biden
Joseph Biden, who won the US presidential election, will not have to prove that he is not an “agent of Russia.”
American political scientist Eduard Lozansky told Izvestia about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He noted that Tony Blinken, recommended by Biden for the post of head of the State Department, has established himself as a consistent supporter of a tough course towards the Russian Federation and an adherent of the theory of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.
According to the expert, given that Blinken and Jake Sullivan, who was promoted to the post of national security assistant, were employees of Biden directly during his vice presidency, “one should assume that his statements about Russia as the main adversary of the United States were formulated not without the participation” of these two politicians .
“His statements stand in stark contrast to those voiced by Rex Tillerson and Michael Flynn, who were appointed to these positions by Trump in 2016. However, both quickly left the distance and instead of moving towards “good relations”, avalanches of sanctions began and a slide towards a dangerous line began. However, Biden, unlike Trump, will not have to constantly prove that he is not an agent of the Kremlin. Therefore, there is an unlikely, but still a chance that he and his advisers will understand: it’s time to stop and start a dialogue with Moscow from scratch,” Lozinsky hopes.
In turn, the publication recalls how Russian politicians reacted to Donald Trump’s victory in 2016.
“In any case, if in 2016 Donald Trump’s victory even ended with unanimous applause from State Duma deputies in the meeting room (which many later condemned), then in 2020 Russian politicians are more cautious in their assessments and are in no hurry to predict the future of relations between Moscow and Washington,” – the newspaper summarizes.
