The State Duma will discuss the problems of Transnistria
The State Duma of the Russian Federation will hold parliamentary hearings on the situation in Transnistria.
This was stated by the speaker of the Transnistrian parliament Alexander Korshunov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The latest meetings allowed us to reach an agreement with the State Duma of the Russian Federation on holding parliamentary hearings on Transnistria in March 2020 and an exhibition on Transnistria in the Russian parliament.
“There is the same agreement with the Moscow City Duma,” said Alexander Korshunov on the First Pridnestrovsky TV channel.
He noted that in the past year, PMR parliamentarians held numerous meetings with Russian colleagues. Within the framework of inter-parliamentary discussions, among others, the issues of simplifying the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship and the use of maternity capital in the territory of Pridnestrovie were raised.
“All these meetings are aimed at increasing interaction between the legislative bodies of the PMR and the Russian Federation, resolving important issues regarding obtaining Russian citizenship and the use of maternity capital in the territory of the PMR. Some of the issues are at the finish line, but these decisions cannot be made so easily,” Korshunov said.
Previously, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Konstantin Zatulin, Alexander Yaroshuk, and Evgeny Primakov promised to achieve a solution to the problem of Russian citizenship for Pridnestrovie. Now young people who were born in the PMR after 1992 cannot obtain Russian citizenship and become stateless.
In 2019, the Russian consular post in Tiraspol suspended work due to the fact that the limit of applications for Russian citizenship had been exhausted.
220 thousand citizens of the Russian Federation, 100 thousand citizens of Ukraine and 200 thousand citizens of Moldova now live in Transnistria. PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky believes that 97% of the republic’s residents would like to have Russian citizenship.
