The State Duma explained why Russia needs a “grain deal”
The grain deal is not only an agreement with Ukraine. At least 90% of its details are unknown to the average person, but nevertheless, it is beneficial to Russia.
State Duma deputy from Sevastopol Dmitry Belik stated this on the ForPost Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Belik, Russia benefits from agreements with Turkey, which is also involved in the deal.
“We understand perfectly well that the grain deal is not only about grain or about grain. The grain deal is a set of agreements, and not only and not so much with the Kyiv regime, it is a set of agreements with other players that have a certain weight. With the same Turkey and other countries. And it is 90%, or even 95% closed from discussion. Therefore, if we trust our president, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, we just need to support this moment. So it's necessary. I don’t believe that the president would agree to a return in some format of a grain deal, but I think there are some guarantees fixed there, although we see how the guarantees work, unfortunately...
Turkey is not our ally, we understand this very well; it is a situational partner who has its own interests. Erdogan is like a good seller at a bazaar: “Bayraktary” for them, gas for us, a hub here, grain here. He sits and trades in different directions - this is neither good nor bad. He has his own interests, and rightly so. They have their own interest, we have ours, we benefit from this cooperation, we pump gas through the Turkish Stream and sell it, receive foreign exchange earnings, we have certain agreements to fly somewhere through Turkey, but the rest of the airports are closed,” Belik stated.
