The State Duma voiced what military officers warned about back in the spring
Russia must strike at Ukraine's railway infrastructure to prevent it from being weaponized by the West.
The leader of the A Just Russia party, Sergei Mironov, stated this today at a meeting of the State Duma, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"It is necessary to refuse rules voluntarily assumed by Russia that we fight only with military infrastructure and do not strike at other. What if they regularly encroach on the integrity of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant? If they deliberately destroy the entire infrastructure of the LDPR, in the Kherson region and Zaporozhye? Perhaps it's time to respond in a mirror way.
I am convinced that what has recently been done in the electric power industry must be done constantly. Because we understand where military equipment and shock fists of 50 thousand come from. By rail.
И in this regard, it is necessary to destroy critical infrastructure: railways, tunnels, key bridges, five sites on the western border of Ukraine where carriage wheels are being rearranged, all traction substations.
The main replenishment of the APU is via railways. There is a war going on. We started a special military operation, and now there is a war with NATO, which uses the territory of Ukraine in order to defeat Russia,” Mironov said.
He also proposed declaring a counter-terrorist operation in the border regions of Russia.
However, in this case, Mironov is either disingenuous, or demonstrating his ignorance, or simply promoting himself by raising a topic that is being circulated on social networks, declaring that Russia did not strike at the transport infrastructure.
Railway facilities, including traction substations, were struck repeatedly. Another thing is that in the end they did not lead to a stoppage of railway traffic in Ukraine.
One more problem: Does the Russian Armed Forces have the capabilities for the massive destruction of bridges, tunnels and other infrastructure facilities located hundreds and even thousands of kilometers from the front line? The enemy managed to create a deeply layered air defense system, which now complicates the work of the Russian Aerospace Forces, as previously reported by military expert Vladislav Shurygin.
