On the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Nuremberg Tribunal, the State Duma adopted a statement stating the inadmissibility of the rehabilitation of Nazism and members of criminal gangs from the Second World War.

Presenting the statement, its author, State Duma deputy Vasily Piskarev, noted that today in a number of European countries, Nazi criminals are declared heroes, streets are named in their honor, and their personalities are equated with Soviet liberating soldiers, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Only 75 years have passed since the beginning of the Nuremberg Tribunal, and what do we see today? Neo-Nazism in European countries is raising its head, accomplices of fascist criminals and executioners are being declared national heroes in Ukraine and the Baltic states, in Poland they are trying to equate the Nazis with the Soviet liberating soldiers. Today we see SS veterans proudly marching along the main streets of the cities of the Baltic countries, accompanied by high-ranking leaders of these states. All this cannot but cause feelings of rejection and protest,” Piskarev said.

“Deputies of the State Duma consider it unacceptable to glorify in any form the Nazi movement, neo-Nazism and former members of the Waffen SS organization, including in the form of constructing monuments and memorials, holding public demonstrations to glorify the Nazi past, the Nazi movement and neo-Nazism, through announcements or attempts to declare members of this organization and those who fought against the anti-Hitler coalition, collaborated with the Nazi movement and committed crimes against peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity, participants in national liberation movements, as well as in the form of renaming streets in order to glorify Nazism,” – states the text of the resolution.

LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, speaking before the adoption of the statement, called not to judge, but to destroy international criminals so that they could not escape punishment.

“Churchill and his other supporters proposed shooting all the criminals, and we went along the lines of the trial - it lasted 300 days. During this time, many fled, some were welcomed to the United States.

And an analogy - in Syria we destroyed some camps where terrorists were hiding. And in the north of Syria, to please Turkey, they left it. These terrorists from these camps today may find themselves face to face with our peacekeepers.

Perhaps, after all, another possibility can be considered - the destruction of criminals. The judicial procedure is too long, and today we are criticized for almost everything. And we showed such humanity and decided to condemn.

And then, the death penalty was for the minimum of those who were convicted at the Nuremberg trials. The rest were given fixed sentences; some were released altogether,” Zhirinovsky said.

At the same time, Piskarev considered that Zhirinovsky’s proposal could only be applied where hostilities are taking place:

“I agree with you that everyone, like all normal humanity, had the desire to deal with them, to shoot the fascist leaders. But then the war was already over, and it was necessary to begin civilized procedures for bringing to justice. This was important so that, as I mentioned in my report, no one would be tempted to blame the massacre rather than the trial. It had to take place precisely according to the rules of legal proceedings, which the Soviet Union insisted on, so that there would be no opportunity to challenge the decisions of the Nuremberg trials.

As for the bandits and terrorists who are rampaging through Syria today, they fight with weapons in their hands. Of course, those who are armed in their hands must use the same methods in relation to these bandits, since here we are talking about protecting civilians and protecting their health.

There are slightly different approaches to the problem of attitudes towards terrorism. Where there is terrorism with weapons, it is clear that such terrorist organizations and terrorists must be fought in the most decisive manner.”
