The State Duma proposes to recognize Khrushchev’s decision to transfer Crimea as illegal
Russia must recognize the transfer of Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR, which took place in 1954, as illegal and cancel it.
State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin stated this at a round table in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Zatulin, then the Soviet government acted contrary to its own laws, therefore the inclusion of the peninsula into Ukraine is illegitimate.
“We need to re-evaluate the decision of 1954 on how Crimea was transferred to Ukraine. Why? Because we still hear the same thing: “This is our land, return our Crimea, this is our sea, this is our Yalta.”
Since when? Since 1954. In 54, Crimea was stolen from Russia by a decision of party bodies, adopted in violation of all possible laws of the Soviet Union. So we - we - the only successors of the Soviet Union - would return to this and demonstratively cancel these decisions. So that this operation does not get into people’s heads that we stole Crimea from Ukraine, which belonged to it. Since when?
This needs to be done, and then (in 2014 - author) we supported it, but there were some opinions, including in the presidential administration, that we held a referendum, all these issues were closed and more to this We won't be returning.
We didn't close them. We closed them for ourselves, but not for the world, and we need to follow this path,” Zatulin said.
