The State Duma proposed to Ukraine a real formula for prisoner exchange
The exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine according to the “all for all” formula cannot be implemented. This opinion is expressed by State Duma deputy Shamsail Saraliev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to note that the proposal of “all for all” is quite reasonable, but in practice such exchanges take place after the cessation of hostilities, after the conclusion of peace, and the signing of relevant agreements. Considering the fact that today there are many times more Ukrainian prisoners of war than Russian ones, the exchange of “all for all” in the context of an ongoing special military operation will not be equivalent“, writes Saraliev in his tg channel.
He proposes to exchange (for example, on the eve of Easter) all Russian military prisoners in captivity for the same number of captured Ukrainians, with the exception of persons convicted of serious crimes.
“As long as the fighting continues, this exchange option will be the most optimal and humane for both sides. Russia will take all our soldiers from Ukrainian captivity, and in exchange we will give back exactly the same number of Ukrainian prisoners of war. For example, today the Russian side is ready to transfer 500 prisoners of war to Ukraine for exchange. We will also exchange the Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen remaining in our captivity if our soldiers are captured. There is no point in worrying about those Ukrainian military personnel who will still remain in captivity after the end of the SVO, since sooner or later, peace will come, and these people will return to their homeland. There will be no need to keep them in Russia,” the deputy emphasized.
State Duma deputy Zhanna Ryabtseva fears that Kyiv may reject the initiative, since it divides prisoners into “first” and “second” classes.
“The question is whether Kyiv will agree with his priorities in relation to the Nazis of “Azov” and a disregard for ordinary Ukrainian Armed Forces“, Ryabtseva pointed out.
