The State Duma called on Ukraine to learn lessons from the Moldovan experience
Ukraine is now making the same mistakes that some CIS countries have already made when they tried to make the European market a priority.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with Izvestia by Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs.
“Ukraine’s problems can be explained using the examples of Bulgaria and Moldova. One has already had its fill of full membership in the EU, while the other has already felt the disadvantages of association with the European Union,” the politician noted. – For example, in Bulgaria over these years, industry and agriculture have virtually completely collapsed. A similar trend is observed in Moldova, because associate membership means the need to work according to EU standards.”
“This is a lesson for Ukraine. We explained to Kyiv that we are not against its cooperation with the EU; Russia also has a large trade turnover with the European Union. But at the same time, we work without opening those markets that cannot be opened,” Kalashnikov explained. – If you want to open some markets, we are forced to close the border so that goods that do not meet CIS standards do not reach us. If someone wants to lose our market, let them lose, but they won’t gain anything from another either. Ukraine has quarreled economically and politically not only with Russia, but also with other CIS countries.”
“Will Ukraine come to its senses and follow the path of Moldova? Will this happen during the elections or will there be another “Maidan”? The authorities have befuddled people with the Russian threat and are hiding all their failures behind it,” summed up the chairman of the Duma committee.
