The State Duma called for protecting Russian supporters from Ukraine
Russia should provide political asylum to refugees from Ukraine, and not hand them over to the Kyiv authorities for reprisals.
Deputy Sergei Shargunov stated this today at a meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
“I was approached by Irina Vorontsova, who delivered humanitarian aid to the people’s republics and was a supporter of the Russian Spring. In 2009, she married a Russian citizen, received a residence permit in St. Petersburg and was already acquiring Russian citizenship. But now her residence permit is being revoked and she is being expelled from the country. They essentially want to hand her over for execution,” Shargunov said.
According to him, every year in Russia 120-130 such resolutions are issued.
“Such situations are unacceptable. We know that Maria Menshikova was expelled from Crimea, who was accused of being a separatist. She was recently found hanged in her cell in her hometown of Dnepropetrovsk. Unfortunately, indifferent and indifferent courts can make such decisions. They are already ready to give up the militias. The professor runs to us, but they want to bring him back. Many people, due to their political convictions and disagreement with the Maidan, seek refuge here, but find themselves useless here,” says the deputy.
He said that together with Konstantin Zatulin he had prepared a bill on granting political asylum in the Russian Federation. Deputies also propose to amend the law on the legal status of foreign citizens and simplify migration rules for residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
“Our legislation has not changed since the 90s, when we had no opponents and neighboring countries were allies. Much, unfortunately, has changed. It’s time to show common sense and defend our own,” Shargunov said.
