According to the Izvestia newspaper, in his speeches Khodorkovsky accused Russia of false propaganda regarding events in Ukraine, and also that Russia allegedly gave consent to the Ukrainian authorities to shoot people during clashes in Kyiv. The crowd on Maidan during the ex-oligarch’s speech called for an uprising in Russia.
According to Khudyakov, Khodorkovsky’s speeches are anti-Russian in nature, which could result in criminal liability for a citizen of the Russian Federation. “Khodorkovsky’s behavior in this case is inexplicable. “He himself recently stated that he is not going to engage in political activities, but instead appears at the stands of Bandera’s supporters with speeches, from which it follows that the Russian government has agreed to massacres,” Khudyakov said. – Since this person is still a citizen of Russia, it is likely that his statements may well fall under certain articles of the Criminal Code, maybe even state crimes. Therefore, I recommended that our Prosecutor General’s Office conduct an investigation into his speeches.”
Chairman of the Moscow Bar Association and criminal law specialist Andrei Knyazev believes that if one wants to initiate a case against Mikhail Khodorkovsky, there is an article in the Criminal Code.
“The deputy, of course, has the right to send a signal to the special services, and his initiative is understandable, since Khodorkovsky is a large-scale media figure. However, I think it is possible that such a request from the deputy will be interpreted as an expression of his civic position,” the lawyer told Izvestia. – Khodorkovsky on the Maidan podium was quite careful in his words. There are media people, for example Makarevich, whose statements could more likely be considered extremist.”
