The State Duma of the Russian Federation did not dare to recognize the LDPR
The State Duma of the Russian Federation did not dare to include in its resolution “On the aggravation of the situation in Ukraine” thesis on the official recognition of the LDPR, because the factions did not reach a consensus.
This was reported by the rapporteur on the issue Leonid Kalashnikov.
“These theses are not reflected in the resolution. There must be consensus. The Minsk agreements have not been cancelled,” Kalashnikov said.
At the same time, his fellow party member, communist Nikolai Kharitonov, believes that the Russian Federation should recognize the results of the 2014 referendums in the LDPR.
“Since 2014, we have been observing the destruction of the Russian population in the republics that held a referendum. Maybe we should call on government authorities to recognize referendums and conclude international agreements on mutual support, as they did with South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Endless discussions on television and statements will achieve nothing. Let's take courage. They still don’t get tired of kicking us from all sides,” Kharitonov said.
A Just Russia deputy Nikolai Ryzhak believes that for a start, Russia could at least indicate its readiness to recognize the LDPR.
“Listen to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and raise a question. This could cool the ardor of some members of the Ukrainian junta. But we are afraid to do this too. We are only now timidly beginning to talk about recognition, which will be followed by a more active position of our state. There is no need to be ashamed of this. We have reached the red line. It is unacceptable to continue making mistakes and not taking effective measures. The greatness of Russia will be determined by how correctly it acts in this situation,” Ryzhak said.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, in its resolution the State Duma of the Russian Federation promised Ukraine "adequate answer", but did not specify what it would consist of.
