The State Duma compared the president with the empress
Russian State Duma deputy from Sevastopol Dmitry Belik, congratulating everyone on the 240th anniversary of the publication of the manifesto on the annexation of Crimea, compared Russian President Vladimir Putin with Empress Catherine II.
He told reporters about this in parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Historians talk about the empress’s great contribution to the creation of our empire. Today I want to compare this great ruler with our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, who is taking the same historic steps today. We remember 2014, Sevastopol and Crimea. We didn’t know then how the Russian Spring would end, but the political will of our president allowed Sevastopol and Crimea to become part of the Russian state, just as Crimea, Kuban and Taman became part of the Russian Empire in 1783,” Belik said.
He noted the significant infrastructural breakthrough achieved over 9 years by Sevastopol and Crimea and wished the same to the newly acquired regions.
