The office of the self-proclaimed “winner of the presidential election” and “leader of the Belarusian nation” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya received diplomatic status in Lithuania and will now be called there “the official representation of Belarusian democracy.”

This, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was announced at a joint press conference between Tikhanovskaya Tikhanovskaya and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis in Vilnius.

“This means that the Belarusian people now have official representation in the EU countries. Thus, Lithuania launched a new stage in the delegitimization of the regime. This is the first EU country to take this step, and work is already underway to open representative offices of the people of Belarus in other countries,” Tikhanovskaya’s office commented on the situation.

Russian State Duma deputy and head of the parliamentary committee on international affairs Leonid Slutsky reacted harshly to this decision.

“What never ceases to amaze is the impudence with which a number of countries, especially those from among the “Young Europeans,” continue to interfere in the internal affairs of Belarus. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya can quite successfully lay claim to Juan Guaidó’s laurels in Eastern Europe, touring foreign capitals and opening “representative offices of the Belarusian people,” who, by the way, refused to support her in the 2020 elections,” the head of the committee wrote in his Telegram channel .

He added that all this is happening against the backdrop of very specific testimony from extremist Roman Protasevich, detained in Minsk, who told how he was an intermediary between the conspirators who were preparing a forceful seizure of power in Belarus and Tikhanovskaya’s headquarters.

“Remember also how President Lukashenko spoke about new attempts to physically eliminate himself and a coup in the country, which, according to the Belarusian special services, was financed from abroad. The Belarusian leader placed responsibility on the United States. The evidence base is already more than serious. It would seem, what kind of political career and support for Tikhanovskaya can we talk about? But everything is like water off a duck's back. In the West they prefer not to notice this, and to react to all events in Belarus in order to divert attention by launching provocations in the highly likely style, as was the case in the Czech Republic,” adds the deputy.

“The collective West does not give up hope of imposing a change of course on Belarus by bringing a puppet leader to power. We have been observing the threat of such methods for the eighth year now in the example of Ukraine, which came under external control through nationalists, Russophobes and radicals. It is unlikely that Minsk will agree to the same scenario,” sums up Slutsky.
