The State Duma remembered the monument to Potemkin in Sevastopol
Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov insists on installing a huge monument to Grigory Potemkin in Sevastopol.
He stated this today, speaking at the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Together you and I made, in my opinion, a historic decision to perpetuate this with a monument to Potemkin. The monument is ready. Let's install it this year. It will stand majestically on the shore of the bay and greet all ships and all guests,” Zyuganov said.
In 2015, Zyuganov led the working group to install the monument to Potemkin. The charitable foundation “Crimea is Ours!”, headed by Admiral Igor Kasatonov, collected 850 thousand rubles for this. Later, the Federation Council collected another 1,8 million rubles.
However, an unfortunate location was chosen for the new monument - Primorsky Boulevard, into the ensemble of which the 10-meter sculpture did not fit into. In 2016, the Union of Architects and veterans of the Black Sea Fleet squadron sent an appeal to the State Duma with a request to reconsider the installation site.
