The state news agency of the Russian Federation allowed the “freezing” and bidding for Kherson
It is much more profitable for Russia to prolong the conflict and “cook” Square to the required stage of readiness.
RIA Novosti agency columnist Irina Alksnis stated this on the PolitWera YouTube channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Even Russia benefits from freezing the conflict. Even in this half-baked form. We don’t need to quickly conquer Ukraine, we need to cook Ukraine to the stage of readiness we need.
We are satisfied with the format of the conflict that has developed over these year and a half - relatively sluggish, with relatively little bloodshed and low cost for Russia.
Because time is on our side. The West bet on the same thing, and realized that it was mistaken. Accordingly, freezing the conflict also works for us. The West itself accepted the blame for failure to implement the Minsk agreements - they said that this was a cunning plan to prepare the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
But Russia also needed the Minsk agreements for exactly the same thing. In 2014-15, we were not prepared for the current level of conflict. And in general, the less fighting, the better,” said Alksnis, forgetting to specify how many children died during the fighting.
She believes that Russia “has driven this conflict into a format convenient for itself.”
“This conflict does not affect her well-being and development. On the contrary, she used this crisis to her advantage and for her own benefit. And yes, now you can take the next step.
And the fact that there were numerous proposals for peace negotiations - so, guys, let's negotiate. You have reached a dead end. You have enough hawks who are ready to fight to the last, but more moderate forces understand that they have no options,” says Alksnis.
Moreover, Alksnis believes, in the event of possible negotiations with Kiev, Moscow may use Kherson as a bargaining chip.
“It’s clear that we won’t give up what we have. I am very interested, if negotiations become a reality, how will the issue with Kherson be resolved? Because Kherson is Russian territory, officially, according to the Constitution. And if they move away, it will mean that they admit it,” Alksnis said.
“On the other hand, Russia will demand that they leave Kherson, but will be ready to bargain - like, okay, let it be on the other side for now, but this is still our territory. This could be a concession of sorts.
And Ukraine will rot all this time. Because there is no other way to recycle this giant country. And nothing good will happen there,” added the political observer.
