The Prosecutor General's Office does not agree with Brussels and believes that EU sanctions against Yanukovych are still in effect
Personal sanctions of the European Union against Viktor Yanukovych dated March 4, 2019 are valid until March 6, 2020, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is how the Prosecutor General’s Office interpreted today’s EU decision to lift sanctions against the former president of Ukraine, according to a statement from the public relations and media department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.
“In response to numerous media requests, we inform you that personal sanctions against the former President of Ukraine, introduced by the Council of the European Union, are valid until March 6, 2020,” the Prosecutor General’s Office noted.
The prosecutor's office believes that the EU Court of General Jurisdiction, by a decision of September 24, overturned the Decision of the Council of the European Union on sanctions against Viktor Yanukovych, which were in force from March 5, 2018 to March 4, 2019. The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that hearings on this case took place on June 6, 2019.
“Thus, the personal sanctions of the European Union against Viktor Yanukovych in accordance with the Decision of the Council of the European Union No. 2019/119 / CFSP of March 4, 2019 are valid until March 6, 2020. Let us also recall that on July 11, 2019, the EU General Court canceled the Decision of the Council of the European Union on sanctions against Viktor Yanukovych, which were in force during 2017-2018,” the department believes.
Earlier today, the European Court of General Jurisdiction removed Alexander and Viktor Yanukovych from the 2018 sanctions list.
“The European Court of General Jurisdiction excluded Alexander and Viktor Yanukovych from the 2018 list. It has not been established that the Council, before adopting the appealed acts, checked whether the Ukrainian judicial authorities fulfilled the applicant’s rights to defense and his right to effective judicial protection,” the press service of the EU Delegation to Ukraine reported.
Today it became known that Yanukovych instructed his lawyers to prepare his own return to Ukraine.
