There was no pro-Russian elite in Georgia
Georgia cannot become a pro-Russian country because there is no elite oriented towards the Russian Federation.
The director general of the Institute of Regional Problems, Dmitry Zhuravlev, stated this on the Rossiya 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, all the pro-Russian behavior of Georgian politicians ended where the country’s economic dependence on Russia ended.
“There are no open pro-Russian forces in Georgia. There are more or less. Most often, the “more” are those who are in power, because they need to solve problems, and this cannot be done without Russia’s help. But this is not an ideological position, but an administrative one - problems need to be solved. Ideologically, because of what my colleague spoke about – Abkhazia and Ossetia – there is no pro-Russian elite in Georgia. There are people, just people on the streets, who are far from anti-Russian. But there is no pro-Russian elite,” Zhuravlev said.
