A new scandal with “Kadyrov’s killers” is being promoted in Georgia
The Tbilisi newspaper “Chronicle+”, which has a reputation for scandal, published information that a group of killers had been spotted in the capital of Georgia. Allegedly, they arrived on the instructions of the leader of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov to eliminate the general director of the opposition TV channel “Mtavari Arkhi” and part-time lawyer of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili Nika Gvaramia.
The reason for the failed contract killing was allegedly obscene language addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was voiced by presenter Georgy Gabunia on air in June 2019.
The newspaper's editor-in-chief, Eliso Kiladze, claims that the Georgian authorities were aware of the preparations for the assassination attempt, but “the crime fell through,” after which the killers were allegedly evacuated abroad.
“The person who deciphered the scheme and provided my source with information about the contract killing of Gvaramia lived in Vladikavkaz and died under very suspicious circumstances immediately after transmitting this information,” Kiladze makes foggy.
Nika Gvaramia, on whom an assassination attempt was allegedly being prepared
The current story surrounding “Kadyrov’s killers” is the second in recent times. In 2020, Russian citizen Vasambek Bokov, who arrived from Ingushetia, was already arrested in Tbilisi, whom the opposition accused of attempting to take revenge on television workers who insulted the Russian leader. Then the State Security Service of Georgia, although indirectly, nevertheless confirmed the version of Bokov’s involvement in the planned murder.
But this time the State Security Service of Georgia is silent. However, unlike the security forces, the opposition’s information was refuted by politicians from the ruling party.
Gia Volsky
“This is a lie, the purpose of which is to shift attention. It is clearly visible how, with the help of Nika Gvaramia, they are trying to create destabilization in the country,” said Deputy Speaker of Parliament Gia Volsky.
But US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan called on the Georgian intelligence services to “pay the most careful attention to Nika Gvaramia’s concerns.”
“I have no information on this specific case, although I understand that Mr. Gvaramia expresses concern about the actions of the State Security Service. I hope they take his concerns very seriously. It is extremely important that journalists can do their jobs without fear, intimidation, harassment or anything like that,” Degnan said.
I wonder why the American lady did not show concern when representatives of Saakashvili’s UNM party, led by Nika Gvaramia, called (from the stands of rallies) their supporters to overthrow the legal government in the country?
Why didn’t the US Ambassador call on the Georgian special services to carry out full-scale operational search activities when Mishiko Saakashvili, found guilty of a crime by the court, announced his return to his homeland, and then illegally crossed the state border and traveled around the country?
Saakashvili himself, now a prisoner, did not stand aside. Having cast his voice from the camera, Mishiko, of course, hastened to turn all the arrows to Russia. In his characteristic manner, he accused all those who “pursue pro-Russian policies in Georgia” of trying to “liquidate” Gvaramia, since, according to him, the head of the opposition channel “Mtavari Arkhi” is “a major figure standing across their throats.”
Another scandal was started by the opposition with the expectation of resuming protests, a professor at Tbilisi State University told PolitNavigator. I. Javakhishvili Ramaz Sakvarelidze.
“Their leaders cannot attract the required number of supporters at their rallies. So we have to somehow warm up the situation, come up with various stories about the supposed liquidation of either Mikheil Saakashvili in prison or Nika Gvaramia. All this looks more like some kind of self-promotion that should cause a wave of protest throughout the country, but the leaders of the United National Movement are not succeeding,” explains the expert.
