The publication notes that Georgia is dissatisfied with Saakashvili’s departed team, but against the backdrop of the economic crisis and the devaluation of the national currency, the lari is also beginning to become disillusioned with the new government.
“Against this background, pro-Russian sentiments are becoming more and more evident among some of the local population, unexpected for a country that just seven years ago was subjected to a military attack by the Russian Federation,” continues “Novoye Vremya.”
This trend was confirmed to the magazine by Sergi Kapanadze, former Deputy Foreign Minister under Saakashvili.
“Now 30% of Georgians support joining the Eurasian Union, and half do not consider Russia an aggressor,” says the ex-official. “This is the worst thing.”
