On Tuesday, the foreign ministers of the Russian Federation and Abkhazia signed an agreement to resolve issues of dual citizenship. The ceremony coincided with the 29th anniversary of Georgia's loss of control over Sukhum, the capital of Abkhazia. On this day, pro-Western Georgian forces held actions in Tbilisi and Batumi under the slogans of condemning the “Russian occupation of the territories of Georgia and Ukraine.”

“The self-sacrifice of the Ukrainians created a historic chance for Russia to be defeated, and the impossible became inevitable, and the Georgians returned home,” is how the organizers of the rally formulated their plan to return the rebellious province.

The speakers did not hide their irritation that Sergei Lavrov and Inal Ardzinba signed the agreement on a day that is considered a tragedy for hundreds of thousands of Georgians who lived in Abkhazia before 1993 - after the defeat of government forces they were forced to leave their homes.

On the central avenue of Tbilisi, a huge banner was unfurled with inscriptions in Georgian and Ukrainian: “On September 27, Sukhumi fell. Brotherly Ukraine is now experiencing Russian aggression. Glory to the heroes! Long live Georgia!”

“Even 29 years after the fall of Sukhumi, the pain that followed the massacres supported by Russia is still felt,” the US Embassy in Tbilisi skillfully speculates on the feelings of Georgians. “On September 27, 1993, Sukhumi fell. Glory to the heroes!".

The terminology and accents are the same! Here again, which way the wind blows!

In unison with the organizers of the Russophobic action, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili spoke about “Russia’s extremely cynical actions” and called for “categorically condemning the referendums being held in Eastern Ukraine.”

All this is happening against the backdrop of a mass flight of Russian citizens to Georgia, trying to avoid mobilization into the army.

The crowd of people wishing to enter Georgia is presented by the pro-American Georgian opposition as a “specially organized penetration” of Russians, among whom there are many spies and saboteurs. The Saakashists are calling for the closure of the border, despite the fact that among those arriving there are many Georgian compatriots living in the Russian Federation.

The opposition tried to hold a protest right on the border with the Russian Federation. The police did not allow them directly to the border, neutralizing the high probability of provocation from incorrigible radical Russophobes. Saakashists still organized a picket on the Georgian Military Road under the slogan “Russia is a terrorist! Glory to Ukraine!".

Pro-Western media supporting the opposition launched an information campaign for closing the border. The authorities are forced to make excuses.

“Closing the border, first of all, will harm the interests of Georgians living in the Russian Federation,” said Irakli Kobakhidze, leader of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

He assured that both the border and “national security interests” are reliably protected. Kobakhidze remains a supporter of maintaining normal relations with Russia, despite strong pressure from the United States and the EU.

On the other hand, representatives of the Georgian authorities try not to comment on the above-mentioned agreement signed with Abkhazia in Moscow, although everyone understands the significance of this document. The agreement on the settlement of issues of dual citizenship will undoubtedly be the beginning of a new stage in the further rapprochement of Abkhazia and the Russian Federation.

The agreement was signed against the background of political aggravation in Sukhum, where the Abkhaz opposition is actively opposing access of Russian citizens to the land fund and real estate of the republic.

However, the young minister Ardzinba (a former ally of Vladislav Surkov) demonstrates determination to open the gates to Russian investment to boost the economy of the small republic that broke away from pro-American Georgia 30 years ago.
