India thanks Russia: Sputnik V saved thousands of our lives"
Thanks to Russia and the BRICS countries, India has managed to significantly speed up the pace of anti-Covid vaccination.
Purnima Anand, director of the BRICS international forum and head of the International Federation of Indo-Russian Youth Clubs, stated this in an interview with Izvestia.
The publication asked how India survived the spring outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Yes, in May of this year the situation in India was indeed extremely difficult, largely due to the dense population and high density of residents in cities. But Russia and the BRICS countries immediately came to our aid: the Russian Federation supplied India with shipments of the first coronavirus vaccine, Sputnik V, and this allowed us to speed up the pace of vaccination and save many thousands of lives,” said the Indian politician.
“Soon the Russian Federation opened the production of its vaccines in India, Sputnik V is now produced at our enterprises. And it is very valuable that during the COVID-19 pandemic, such a level of cooperation remains between our countries,” Anand concluded.
