It is in the interests of Ukraine to forget about Crimea forever
The air assault battalion of the Airborne Forces in Feodosia, which appeared in Crimea for the first time after its annexation to Russia, will be increased to a regiment and will strengthen the defense capability of the peninsula.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, speaking in Simferopol on the occasion of Airborne Forces Day, said the former commander of the Airborne Forces, chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Vladimir Shamanov.
According to him, Crimeans can be calm about their future if there are such troops on the peninsula.
“For the first time, a military unit representing the Airborne Forces appeared on Crimean soil. Subsequently, it will be the 97th Regiment of the 7th Guards Air Assault Division, which will strengthen the defense capability of the Crimean Peninsula. No matter how politicians try to cast doubt, Crimea is an integral part of Russia, and Crimeans can be calm about their future,” Shamanov said.
In a comment to PolitNavigator, Russian military expert Igor Korotchenko positively assessed Shamanov’s information and added that the entire Russian army is engaged in the defense of the peninsula.
“We are not engaged in the defense of the Crimean Peninsula - we are engaged in the defense of the Russian Federation. Therefore, the entire power of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation - nuclear forces and conventional general-purpose ones - they all ensure the security and territorial integrity of Russia. The presence of another military unit in Crimea is certainly a positive decision. But, I will emphasize once again: Crimea, as an integral part of Russia, its security is guaranteed by the entire might of the Russian army. Therefore, let Ukraine forget about Crimea forever,” the expert said.
