This was reported by the Spanish publication El Mundo.
Police carried out a special operation at a Japanese restaurant in Barcelona as part of the fight against financial crimes. In total, law enforcement officers detained 11 people who used businesses in Barcelona for money laundering.
“Among those detained are mainly Ukrainians and Russians living in Barcelona. In particular, the son of the former mayor of Kyiv – Stepan Chernovetsky,” the message said.
It is noted that the detainees are accused of creating a criminal organization, money laundering, falsifying official documents and crimes against the treasury.
However, the ex-mayor of Kyiv Lelnid Chernovetsky himself wrote on the social network Facebook that his son Stepan was not detained in Barcelona, he was simply answering police questions about the circumstances related to another person.
“My son is not detained! This is not true, he is at home in Barcelona, and at this time he is answering questions from the police about the circumstances surrounding a certain person! If they wanted to detain him, he would have been detained long ago! In Spain, it costs nothing to detain a person. I am sure that by this evening the police will apologize to my son,” the politician wrote.
