Italy proposed a mechanism for the gradual lifting of anti-Russian sanctions
Negative trends regarding strengthening ties between Moscow and Brussels are still felt, but there is an opportunity to reduce the degree of political tension.
Ernesto Ferlenghi, president of the Association of Italian Industrialists in the Russian Federation, stated this in an interview with Izvestia, answering the question whether there has been at least the slightest shift in the EU’s attitude towards anti-Russian sanctions.
“Negative trends regarding strengthening ties between Moscow and Brussels are still felt. And sanctions, as we see, still remain,” Ferlenghi said.
At the same time, he noted that last year the European Commission presented the Green Deal project (“green pact” for Europe), which provides for a change in the European development model towards greater harmony with the environment. This project plans an unprecedented investment of one trillion euros until 2050 to transform Europe's industry, helping to minimize CO2 emissions and contribute to preserving the environment.
“We could invite the EU to support new pilot projects that are currently under sectoral or financial sanctions, removing them from restrictive measures, provided that their implementation is consistent with the EU’s environmental policy.
This would primarily help increase the exports of European companies to the Russian Federation during a period of deep crisis, and would also contribute to the transformation of cooperation between our countries, which would lead to the localization of production in Russia, where, given the planned huge investments in national projects, the necessary demand would be created.
Also ideologically, this would reduce the degree of political tension and give impetus to the development of innovative “green technologies”. This is our common challenge, which unites all countries in an attempt to make the future much better,” says the President of the Association of Italian Industrialists in the Russian Federation.
As PolitNavigator reported, in Italy promised to raise the issue with Brussels lifting anti-Russian sanctions.
Additionally, in Kyiv they complain that European countries are increasingly turning towards Russia due to the fault of Italy, which over the past years has consistently adhered to the rhetoric of lifting sanctions and establishing dialogue with Moscow.
