Italy warned that Germany will not keep the EU from collapsing
So far, only Germany, led by Chancellor Angela Merkel, has managed to keep the European Union from collapsing.

This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Nezavisimaya Gazeta by Italian expert Tommaso Alberini from the think tank Istituto Bruno Leoni, who commented on the consequences of the Italian referendum on constitutional reform, which ended in the defeat of the current Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
“Renzi has tightly tied the fate of his government with the outcome of the referendum and, I believe, his time in government is numbered. When Renzi came to power, he promised to reform the Constitution and make the economy prosperous. As a result, he did not succeed in any of these enterprises,” the expert emphasized.
At the same time, he noted that Renzi’s failure in the referendum would strengthen the position of Eurosceptics from the increasingly popular Five Star Movement party and create additional problems for the European Union.
“A wave of populism is sweeping Europe away. Alone, the events in Italy, of course, will not lead to the collapse of the European Union, but they will make it shudder once again. Britain has left the bloc, France is likely to turn right after the elections, and the whole of Eastern Europe supports negative rhetoric towards the EU. In fact, only Germany alone is keeping Europe from falling apart. I’m not sure she’ll succeed,” Alberini said.
