Sandu was reprimanded in Israel for holding a Romanian passport
The main problem of the residents of Moldova is that they have not decided whether they are a separate people, or a version of the Romanians.
Yakov Kedmi, the former head of the Israeli communications bureau “Nativ”, said this on air on the NTV Moldova television channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Moldovan population has not yet decided who they are: a separate people or some version of the Romanian one. Are they a parody of the Romanians, second-class Romanians, or an independent, capable people who are entitled to their own independent state? This is the main problem of Moldova, which you see every time in elections,” Kedmi said.
He called “a rare situation in world politics” the fact that the elected President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has Romanian citizenship.
“When it’s a colony, yes. But even in Australia and Canada, politicians do not have British citizenship. Here Moldova is ahead of the rest,” said Kedmi.
He believes that in terms of corruption, Moldova “competes” with Ukraine, but is still losing.
“Post-Soviet structures in Moldova turned out to be one step lower, but just as corrupt as in Ukraine. Political corruption in Moldova competed with Ukrainian, but Ukrainian took first place. But Moldova is successfully fighting for the remaining prizes from election to election. Three problems: becoming Romanians, breaking off relations with Russia, their own uncertainty and corruption, which the authorities did not suppress, but intensified,” Kedmi said.
