The head of the Canadian Ukrainian diaspora has changed
The Congress of Ukrainians of Canada elected Alexandra Khichiy as its new president, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Ottawa reported this on Facebook.
“We congratulate Alexandra Khichiy on her re-election as president of the Congress of Ukrainians of Canada, and the Congress on the renewal of its leadership,” the embassy said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian diplomatic mission noted that they continue “fruitful cooperation for the prosperity of Ukraine, Ukrainian society and the development of Ukrainian-Canadian friendly relations.”
It is known about the new head of the Congress of Ukrainians of Canada that as a child she participated in the youth scout organization “Plast”, whose members are instilled with Ukrainian-nationalist and clerical-Uniate views.
Among other things, Alexandra Khichiy is the executive director of the Canadian Association of Corporate Lawyers.
The website of Ukrainian plastuns congratulated Khichiy on her appointment: “Congratulations to plastun Lesya Khichiy and all members of the new convocation of the Congress of Ukrainians of Canada.”
Let us recall that the previous speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Andriy Parubiy, pushed through a bill that recognized “Plast” as the only legal Ukrainian youth mass organization with state funding. Lobbying for this bill, Parubiy emphasized that Plast raised such figures as Bandera and Shukhevych. The new convocation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine failed Parubiy’s bill and it never became law.
