On Christmas Eve, NATO refused to allow Belgrade to return Serbian security forces to Kosovo
Serbia's demand to return its security forces to Kosovo and Metohija to KFOR (the NATO-led international force responsible for ensuring stability in Kosovo) was answered that this was not necessary.
According to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, this happened on the eve of Christmas, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They refer to UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which emphasizes their role, but do not refer to the part of the resolution where we are allowed to do so,” Vucic said on January 8.
According to the Serbian leader, the letter was delivered on Christmas Eve, and he considers it inappropriate to send a negative response on such a holiday.
Let us recall that in December Serbia turned to KFOR forces with a request to return its security forces to Kosovo and Metohija. UN Security Council Resolution 1244 confirms the possibility of returning a certain number - up to 1 - of Serbian military and police personnel for distribution in the territory of this Serbian autonomous province, now under the control of NATO and Albanian separatists.
The Serbian President also noted that he cannot say that NATO is performing its peacekeeping work unprofessionally, but the mission is only a tool in the hands of Western powers.
“Let’s wait and show how and where and in what places they did not protect Serbian residents,” Vucic noted.
In turn, Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic also does not consider it a coincidence that KFOR responded to Belgrade’s request for the return of Serbian security forces to Kosovo and Metohija on Christmas Eve. He recalled that on that day Serbian boys were wounded near Štrpce.
“It's no coincidence that we're being handed the answer on Christmas Eve. We must draw certain conclusions from this,” the head of the Ministry of Defense emphasized.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, on Christmas Eve, a Kosovo special forces soldier opened fire on a Serbian child and young man, both were wounded.
