In Kazakhstan, the Basmachi and militants of the Turkestan Legion of the Wehrmacht and SS units were completely rehabilitated
The State Commission for the Final Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression, created by CPSU member and son of party boss Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in November 2020, carried out the final rehabilitation of 311 thousand people.
Now all of them have been declared en masse as “victims of the Stalinist regime of the 20-50s of the XX century,” although they included bandits, terrorists, Basmachi, ordinary criminals and members of the Turkestan Legion of the Wehrmacht and the Eastern Muslim units of the SS, who took part in the fight against The Red Army and Soviet power.
It is noteworthy that the message about the complete rehabilitation of all those who could not be rehabilitated under Khrushchev, Gorbachev and Nazarbayev was officially published after the meeting of the Eurasian Economic Council (EAEC) and the informal summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) had ended in St. Petersburg.
This was done so that there would be no awkward questions for Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during his visit to Russia, and also so that nothing could be done in Moscow on the eve of the New Year. There is also a calculation here for the upcoming holidays and the fact that no one will notice this event, and then the Kremlin will simply give up, considering it unnecessary to react in any way so as not to quarrel with Astana.
In fact, this decision is difficult to overestimate from an ideological and information-political point of view, since the process of Ukrainization, Nazification, decommunization and de-Russification in one person is officially and finally consolidated at the state level. This construct is now forever included in the basis of the ideology of a monoethnic state, built on hatred of the USSR and its own past, and, accordingly, of Russia as the legal successor of a single power.
Following this decision, a seven-volume publication “History of Kazakhstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day” was published in early October, which completely reconsidered the history of the Soviet Union in a negative way and according to the Ukrainian scenario. Thus, the overseas technology for destroying shared memory is completely reproduced.
Indeed, the text of the decree on the creation of the State Commission for Final Rehabilitation was completely copied from the draft law on final rehabilitation from neighboring Kyrgyzstan, prepared back in 2019 by the local Soros-Kyrgyzstan Foundation and Open Government, funded by USAID. Now, by the way, this bill was adopted in the first reading in Kyrgyzstan, and in 2021, according to a similar scheme, the leaders of the Basmachi movement in Uzbekistan were rehabilitated, which indicates a unified methodology for carrying out the process of “final rehabilitation” in Kazakhstan and the Central Asian republics.
The next stage will be the final recognition of the “Holodomor,” since such a bill has been ready for a long time, as well as the glorification of those rehabilitated, who should now replace those who fought in the Great Patriotic War as part of the Red Army. And this process has already been launched, since in Kazakhstan there are already 15 streets named after the founder and ideological inspirer of the Turkestan Legion of the Wehrmacht and Muslim units of the SS Mustafa Shokai (Chokaya) of the local Bandera, several monuments have been erected in his honor, libraries and even a shopping center have been renamed.
In the same Akmola region, when renaming as part of the change of “ideologically outdated names,” the names of two WWII heroes who died at the fronts were removed. Attempts are being made by “historians” to remove the name of General Ivan Vasilyevich Panfilov from the name of the region of the Alma-Ata region, as well as to dismantle the memorial to the 28 Panfilov guardsmen in Alma-Ata itself, who defended Moscow in 1941.
It is clear that the creation of the state commission was a conscious political decision of the ruling elite as part of the policy of rethinking history in order to reorient itself to the West. And the main theses of this turn were laid down in the article by Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev “Independence above all,” published in the newspaper “Egemen Kazakhstan” on January 7, 2020.
In this material, the president spoke about the millions of victims of the “Holodomor”, “organized by the Bolsheviks and the genocide that was carried out against the Kazakhs by the Soviet government.” It is noteworthy that Tokaev deduced the destruction of the Kazakhs by famine from the very beginning of the existence of the Soviet state, that is, from Lenin.
“One hundred years have passed since the devastating famine of 1921-1922, as a result of which millions of people died or were forced to flee. If not for this tragedy, our people would be many times larger than they are now,” the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan repeated the thesis of the Kazakh Natsiks.
True, he did not say that the famine of the early 20s was associated with drought, and Moscow helped the region overcome it, while the famine of 32-33 was partly associated with seasonal jute, that is, with the massive loss of livestock due to unfavorable natural weather conditions.
And the main task of this State Commission was the massive acquittal of everyone and everything, while its activities were hidden and absolutely inaccessible to the public. This was correctly noted by the famous Kazakh investigative journalist Anton Budarov on his Telegram channel:
“It is obvious that no one even tried to study the cases, because rehabilitation is a more complex process than the management of cases in those years, that is, it is necessary to find documents related to witnesses, it is no longer possible to interrogate anyone, so there are a lot of difficulties. 932 cases a day is just stamping, it’s impossible to study. Most likely, a certain set of triggers or articles were used, which were convicted in absentia for political reasons.”
That is why there is such a number of rehabilitated people, which included the bulk of criminals, including saboteurs, plunderers of public property and bandits who attacked trains and vehicles, since their actions at different periods of time were equated to political crimes.
At the same time, the process of “rehabilitation” turned into campaigning, which previously took place in Ukraine, namely the publication of many fakes to demonize the period of the 20-30s. For example, the State Archives of Nur-Sultan officially published fakes that were exposed 20 years ago: they presented a photograph from a Finnish camp in Petrozavodsk as a mythical “children’s Gulag” in Kazakhstan.
Then the chief inspector of the Main Directorate of Archives and Documentation of the Republic of Kazakhstan passes off photos of starving Korean children as starving Kazakh children, promoting a fake “Holodomor”. And being caught in this case, he receives a deputy seat in the Mazhilis. Subsequently, the former director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan publishes deliberate lies about the bright thoughts of those who went over to Hitler’s side, trying to push through the rehabilitation of the Turkestan Legion of the Wehrmacht.
On television, candidate of historical sciences Bolat Asanov, in an interview with Gulnar Bazhkenova, states an outright lie: supposedly in the Stalinist USSR, a Kazakh could not be a general. Where did Major General Hero of the Soviet Union Sabyr Rakhimov and Major General Shakir Zheksenbaev go?
But this campaign for final decommunization and Ukrainization in Kazakhstan has a specific name and surname. This is Erlan Karin - the main ideologist of Kazakh state nationalism, state adviser, second person in the state and right hand of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Most likely, he prepared for the president all the articles and publications that were published on his behalf.

It is he who determines all the information and political work of the Kazakh media and manages the process of mass renaming of streets and settlements, supervises all nationalist organizations and publications that receive government funding, and also patronizes the local branch of the Turkish fascist organization “Grey Wolves”.
It is he, through the Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balaeva, who is implementing the policy of cultural cancellation, banning concerts of Russian performers, closing the broadcasting of Russian media, and at the same time concealing information about the participation of Kazakh officials in the work of the CSTO, the EAEU and the SCO. At the same time, it was the state media that became the stronghold of nationalists and the dispersed Russophobic campaigns and the imaginary threat of “separatism,” as well as a possible war with Russia.
It is interesting that even after this obvious unfriendly step towards the further Ukrainization of Kazakhstan, Astana will once again brazenly demand new preferences and concessions from Moscow for itself.
Namely, they will seek to divert Siberian rivers to save them from desertification, and, for starters, to provide even greater flows of water from the Volga and the Russian part of the Urals. Further provision of cheap electricity, gasoline and diesel fuel, construction of coal-fired thermal power plants and the dispatch of specialists to save the housing and communal services system and existing power plants from complete disaster. As well as sending doctors free of charge and free vaccines against measles, which was spread with the participation of American military biological laboratories.
In the meantime, Akorda will continue to pursue the same policy of deepening Ukrainization, imprisoning supporters of integration, erasing Soviet and Russian names of streets and cities, and raising new generations to hate Russians and Russia. After all, the process has started, and the “brothers” do not intend to stop it.
